Abstract
Primary care sports medicine (PCSM) is an exciting, dynamic, and evolving field that spans a wide range of topics, skills, and experiences. Specifically, fellowship programs for PCSM are becoming increasingly popular and subsequently increasingly competitive. A primary care sports medicine physician has specialized training in the treatment and prevention of illness and injury to help patients achieve their goals and return to their level of activity. PCSM physicians practice in a variety of settings including orthopedic and primary care clinics, university settings, athletic training rooms, and athletic events. Applying for a fellowship in PCSM is done through the ERAS application. If considering a PCSM fellowship, it is important to get exposure to the specialty early, participate in event coverage, and identify mentors in the field who can connect you to the PCSM community.
