    Abstract

    Spread spectrum modulation is universally accepted in the hostile communication environments that occur in military applications. In consumer applications, spread spectrum is not widely accepted, in spite of recent FCC encouragements and rulings. We present a commercial application of direct sequence, spread spectrum modulation. This involves indoor digital radio for office, factory or laboratory based wireless PBX applications. Experimental results, as well as a discussion of the advantages of spread spectrum in harsh indoor, multipath environments, are included. Some sample calculations of multipath outage and a short description of a frequency hopping system complete the article.
