Abstract
The Penn State Libraries' Open House activities for incoming students find Access Services staff extending beyond their everyday routines to creatively help relieve students' fears of the library and understand how Access Services can help them. Serving on the Access Services Open House Committee offers staff many opportunities for development as the Committee creates activities around an Open House theme. One activity in particular grew into a Stacks Tour Pilot Project where a staff member created, implemented, and evaluated the results of the project and made recommendations about the continuation of the project. This article discusses the Pilot Project and resulting staff development opportunity.
