Abstract

The growth development of piezoelectric single crystals for medical transducer applications was discussed. Piezoelectric single crystals were found to exhibit 5 to 10 times the strain of conventional piezoelectric ceramic with high electromechanical coupling. It was found that these crystals offer a potential for higher performance transducers with broad bandwidth. The most important parameter affecting the bandwidth was suggested to be the electromechanical coupling factor of the piezoelectric resonator.
