Abstract
Building constructions involving the installation of detectors and sprinklers on ceilings with beams or other obstructions make ceiling jet flow complicated. Under these conditions, temperature and velocity profiles are not fully characterized. This study extends a previous research which reports correlation valid for the flow within the secondary bay at locations perpendicular to the beam. Normally, multiple beams exist and construct multiple channels on the ceiling, and detectors or sprinklers may be installed at positions within a bay not containing the initial fire plume. In this study, the beamed ceiling jet temperature profile is investigated for multiple beam spacings in the midline of the secondary bay and an easy-to-use correlation is developed to predict the maximum temperature variations.
