Abstract

We report on Fe71Pt29 thin films which are prepared by co-evaporation of Fe and Pt onto quartz substrates at room temperature. Fe71Pt29 films exhibit after annealing up to 870 K an ordered L12-structure as obtained by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Moreover, magnetic measurements reveal that the annealed Fe71Pt29 thin films have the same magnetic properties as ordered Fe71Pt29 bulk alloys. Surprisingly, also the as-prepared Fe71Pt29 films show the same magnetic behavior as the annealed Fe71Pt29 films, which suggests that 'already' the as-prepared films are in the ordered state.
