Structural impact testing force spectra

Abstract

The force from a structural impact test can be modeled as a half sine pulse. The resulting force spectrum can be shown to be dependent on the force amplitude and contact time. Analysis of the spectrum yields insight into the usable frequency range as a function of contact time. Furthermore, the spectral effects of a `double hit' can be developed and the governing parameters identified. In general the force spectrum is broadbanded in nature with the useable frequency range governed by the impact contact time.
