Abstract

The North American power grid from a network perspective is discussed. The magnitude of the August 2003 blackout which affected the United States is also discussed. It has put the challenges of energy distribution and transmission into limelight. The ability to transfer power between consumers and generators when certain nodes are disrupted is determined. It is found that the power grid is robust to most perturbations.
