    Abstract

    1. 1. In contrast to previous reports, examination of the base composition of tRNA preparations isolated from hamster liver showed a minor base composition similar to that of rat liver tRNA. 2. 2. tRNA methylases isolated from hamster liver tRNA were also similar to those present in rat liver extracts. 3. 3. The same methylated nucleosides were formed when unfractionated undermethylated tRNA from E. coli was used as a substrate for methylation by enzymes from either of these species. 4. 4. The same sites within the transfer RNA sequence were attacked when purified tRNA species from E. coli and yeast were used as substrates.
