Submillisecond grating diffractions in nematic liquid crystal films

Abstract

We have quantitatively observed a large fast component in the laser induced thermal grating in nematic liquid crystal films. This effect can be successfully utilized in submillisecond and high spatial frequency four wave mixing processes with low power lasers.
