Abstract
A semi-infinite thin flat plate in a forced convection flow suddenly vanishes by melting due to a strong heat pulse applied to it. The unsteady flow and temperature development are investigated by a successive approximation method as well as a finite difference numerical integration. Solutions valid for the complete time history as well as the near and far field have been obtained and compared with each other.
