Abstract

Superconducting properties and microstructural evolution of Li doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox with nominal composition of Bi2Sr2Ca(Cu1-yLiy)2Ox and Bi2+zSr2CaCu2LiyOx were studied Tc, zero increased by 10 K from undoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox to 94.1 K, and Tc, onset > 100 K was observed. Li doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox systems exhibit a similar phase formation sequence as undoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox but at significantly lower temperatures. The liquid phase formed at lower temperatures in Li doped materials promotes the formation and growth of the 2212 phase. Four factors indicate that Li partially substituted for Cu in 2212 while it also resided interstitially and/or in non-superconducting phases: the existence of Cu free phases in Bi2Sr2Ca(Cu1-yLiy)2Ox, the presence of CuO phases in Bi2+zSr2CaCu2LiyOx, EDX measurements, and NMR results.
