Abstract

This paper describes a new class of supported catalysts which are based on the functionalized polyolefins. The advantages of using this type of catalyst are many folds, mainly (1) the chemical and physical stabilities of the substrate in the reaction conditions. (2) the high reactivity of the active site due to its high surface area and high mobility. (3) the good processibility to form various shpae, size of catalysts. (4) the convenient processes in the implantation of catalyst. (5) The catalyst can be easily recovered and reused after reaction cycles. One example of supported Lewis acid catalyst, involving in the cationic polymerization of isobutene, was used to demonstrate the idea.
