Abstract

A theory underpinning new types of surface waves, guided by the planar interface of an anisotropic material and an isotropic material, has been developed. Unlike conventional surface waves, these new surface waves propagate only in one direction for each quadrant of the interface plane and their decay in the direction normal to the interface in the anisotropic partnering material is given by the product of an exponential function and a linear function of distance from the interface plane.
