Abstract
Current derivational theories of syntax (see Chomsky 2008) use uninterpretable edge features to build syntactic structure. We argue here that the edge features involved in beginning and continuing a syntactic derivation are lexical features that must be interpretable by the Conceptual-Intentional C-I and/or Sensorimotor SM performance systems, and that derivational edges are defined in terms of their edge features. As we demonstrate in this paper, our reanalysis of edges features and of edges permits a reconceptualization of crash proof syntax that avoids the flaws in Frampton and Gutmann (2000,2006).
