Abstract

Six new complexes of Schiff base ligands, N-(3-hydroxypropyl) salicydenimine (H 2salpa) and N-(3-hydroxypropyl)-3-methoxyl-salicydenimine (H 2vanpa), coordinate to manganese (III) are synthesized, among which [Mn 2(salpa) 2(PhCOO) 2] · 2CH 2C1 2, [Mn 2(vanpa) 2(PhCOO) 2] · 2CHCl 3 and [Mn 2 (vanpa) 2 (ClCH 2COO) 2] are dimeric complexes, while [Mn(Hsalpa) 2 (H 2O) Cl], [Mn(vanpa) 2(H 2O)Br] and [Mn(Hsalpa) 2(NCS)] are monomeric complexes. Their IR spectra have been assigned. The synthetic procedure is also discussed. [Mn 2(vanpa) 2(PhCOO)2] · 2CHCl 3 is determined by X-ray crystal structural analysis. The Mn⋯Mn distance of 2. 848 Å is by far the shortest dimeric manganese (III) complex of this type.
