title = "Synthesis and scaleup of high purity precursors to superconducting oxides",
abstract = "The development of a stable rare earth oxide, barium carbonate, and copper oxide powder precursor for use in fabricating powder and sintered shapes of YBa2Cu3O(7-x) superconducting oxide is described. The precursor is comprised of an intimate mixture of barium carbonate, copper oxide, and partially amorphous yttrium oxide. Two routes for the formation of this precursor powder are reported. This precursor powder is advantageous in that it can be used in most processing environments without degradation of its properties. Once a shape has been fabricated, sintering the powder shape, with a proper oxygen anneal, will convert the powder to the superconducting oxide phase.",
