Abstract

An approach to synthesize electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures which offer isolation in the desired frequency band is proposed. The methodology treats EBGs as stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) and predicts the fundamental band gap of EBGs from the resonance condition of SIRs. The methodology is validated through simulations and measurements.
