Abstract

The borane and α-olefin copolymerization technique allows us to overcome the difficulties usually associated with functionalizing polyolefins. By controlling the amount of borane monomer incorporation, we can tailor both the crystallinity and the polarity of the resulting copolymers. The functional PP has found applications for supported catalysts and for improved adhesion in PP-aluminum composites. The ultimate goal of this work is to produce various graft copolymers of polyolefins for use as compatiblizers in blends and composites. The borane method allows us to form grafts of MMA, styrene, acrylamide, acrylonitrile, etc. on isostatic polyolefins.
