Abstract
A series of amphiphilic graft copolymers, PE-graft-PEO, containing hydrophobic polyethylene (PE) as the backbone and hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the side-chain, have been synthesized by a novel route. The graft structure and the molecular weight, as well as the molecular weight distribution of the graft copolymer can easily be controlled. The molecular weight of the side-chain PEO is proportional to the reaction time and the monomer concentration, which indicates the 'living' character of the anionic polymerization of ethylene oxide. The produced copolymers PE-graft-PEO were characterized by 1H NMR and DSC measurements.
