Abstract

The synthesis of linear ethylene/divinylbenzene (DVB) copolymers by metallocene catalysis was discussed. The catalyst incorporates 1,4-DVB into polymer through single enchainment and the styrenic moieties, which were already enchained do not react further. The greater diffusibility of monomers in the copolymer structures provide ideal polymerization conditions. The polymer molecular weight systematically decreases with the increase of 1,4-DVB incorporation. The poly(ethylene-co-1,4-divinyl-benzene) copolymers were versatile intermediates which were used for the preparation of functional polymers and graft copolymers.
