Abstract

An efficient method for the synthesis of sPS graft copolymers with defined structures by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was developed. Grafting was performed using brominated sPS as initiator and CuBr combined with PMDETA as catalyst. Both the graft density and the graft length were controlled by changing the bromine content of sPS, and the amount of monomer used in the grafting reaction. The ATRP mechanism for grafting was supported by NMR analysis of end groups.
