Abstract

At one time, firms designed technological systems for obsolescence. Increasingly, however, firms are designing technological systems to facilitate the retention and reuse of components. This paper offers guidelines for how technological systems can be designed for retention and reuse, and explains why retention and reuse of components have become important.
