Abstract
Calculations are presented of the temperature (T) dependence of the specular scattering of He atoms from adsorbed noble gas layers. The eikonal method is used for an oscillating soft wall, derived from a realistic dynamical model of the overlayer. Deviation is found from the usual Debye-Waller effect in that the specular reflection can increase with T at low T. Numerically exact calculations are performed to confirm the model qualitatively in the limit of a rigid layer.
