Abstract

The rigid organic template 8 can be rapidly assembled via double Diels-Alder cycloaddition of methyl 9-anthracenecarboxylate (7) and trams-anti-trans-norbornadiene trimer 5. Subsequent manipulation leads to differentially functionalized templates capable of mediating the oligoselective polymerization of acrylate monomers. Lactonization studies with template diol 10 provide a useful measure of the “effective molecular size” of the template.
