Abstract
A method for computing influence lines is presented. Influence lines are widely used in structural design to determine worst-case locations of live loads. The method is a result of giving physical interpretation to certain adjoint variables used in the field of design sensitivity analysis. The method is general, and can be easily implemented in finite element programs. Computational aspects and example problems are discussed.
