Abstract

Uncertainty is a pervasive and persistent quality of real-time systems. It exists along the domains of time, space, and behavior. Due to the complex nature of the systems under control, uncertainty cannot be completely eliminated. It is only possible to mitigate this problem using a proactive approach. Such an approach starts with acknowledging uncertainty's existence and then identifying its possible causes so that the mitigation strategy can be designed.
