Abstract
This chapter synthesises the Islamic Public Value (IPV) project’s contribution to the research programme on religion and public administration. First, it discusses the overall contribution of the IPV project, emphasising its gap-filling role of uncovering a range of Islamic Indigenous Cooperative Institutions, which provide public governance in various forms. Second, by presenting the 18 themes of a comprehensive research programme on religion and public administration, it maps how the 14 case studies presented in this book contribute to the understanding of these themes. In so doing, the chapter showcases the significant contribution that the IPV project provides to advance knowledge and understanding in this field. Finally, the chapter concludes by proposing an ambitious research agenda having a comparative and integrative thrust and aiming at the combined analysis of indigenous (Islamic and others) institutions and Western institutions, which hinges around a constructive alliance between Reason and Faith for deepening our understanding of public governance institutions which are based (also) in Faith through the application of a critical reason aware of its limits.
