Abstract

The impact of climate change on agriculture has become an issue of greatest concern for researchers, governments and policymakers. Europe is increasingly exposed to the effects of climate change. Among Eastern European countries, Poland is one of the countries with the smallest water resources per capita and, consequently, water shortage is expected to have far-reaching consequences. This chapter discusses the main challenges and opportunities for Poland related with the Food-Energy-Water nexus. It focuses on the identification of knowledge gaps and direction for future research that may lead to sustainable, cost-effective, feasible solutions applicable not only to Poland but also to other countries in the region facing similar challenges. Adaptations in response to climate change to support food production involve actions taken to reduce risk and vulnerability and increase resilience by adjusting practices, processes and capital in response to observed or actual climate change effects.
