Abstract

Terry Engelder shared his views on the issues facing fracking in Europe, assessing the history behind the European bans on hydraulic fracturing. He shared his views during the AAPG Distinguished Lecture Tour in Europe. His lecture was entitled ‘The Environmental Realities of Hydraulic Fracturing versus Fiction’. His objective was to address the public fears that drove moratoria and bans on fracking in New York, the UK, and France. Several people expressed views that Europeans won’t support fracking until they were sure of safety of such activities
