Abstract

Sporolactobacillus inulinus are unique spore-forming lactic acid bacteria that have characteristics resembling both the lactobacilli and bacilli. They have been isolated from soil, rhizosphere of plants and sewage. As a lactic acid bacterium, they may be important in the manufacture of high quality D (-)-lactic acid or possibly serve as a probiotic organism. As a spore-former, this organism exhibits a heat resistance that is similar to bacilli.
