Abstract
The Harris House and related structures in and near Ellettsville, Indiana, have been studied to enlarge information about brick construction, a type of construction frequently neglected in studies of material culture. From the investigation of individual examples in one region, it becomes apparent that environmental and functional reasons are only part of the explanation for the diffusion of brick housing; social, structural, and cognitive factors also strongly affect brick architectural traditions. -C.R.Gunter Jr
