Several major developmental research trends in the general area of communication are discussed next. Four predominant lines of instructional communication research are reviewed and analyzed from a developmental perspective. Finally, this article suggests openning new lines of research for instructional communication scholars which incorporate the developmental aspects of the educational experience.
