Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter explores the attitudes of the wartime press, both ethnic and national, when presenting the Irish experience during the Civil War. It presents an overview of the Irish experience in America leading up to the war, the motivations of Irish soldiers, and coverage of Irish soldiers, including the renowned Irish Brigade, by the press. It further explores how postwar publications by Irish Union veterans employed the power of print media to shape the Irish American Civil War story in the nation's memory.
