Abstract

Eu3+-activated orthophosphates and pentaphosphates have moderate to weak luminescent intensity. Other phos-phate-phosphors have low efficiency or have no measurable luminescent intensity relative to a standard phosphor, Y2O3:Eu3+. The luminescent spectra indicate that the 4:1, 3:1, and 1:2 compounds in both the systems belong to one of the Cs, C2, or C2v symmetries. The 1:3 compounds may also belong to monoclinic or orthorhombic system, but with different site symmetries that do not have pure centers of inversion.
