Abstract
This study examines how performance evaluation mediates the relationship between managerial practices and organizational performance in local governments. Managerial practices are analysed alongside three dimensions of organizational performance: productivity, work quality, and citizen service. A causal mediation regression analysis was employed using survey data on government performance in South Korea. The results found that local governments improved all three aspects of organizational performance by effectively managing the performance evaluation path in conjunction with promoting management innovation, increasing autonomy, clarifying goals, and reducing red tape. It implies that governments should prioritize performance evaluation to facilitate meaningful steps toward achieving performance improvement.
