Abstract

Limited research has investigated the affordances of programming that promotes spatial sensemaking for children. We analyzed a program which integrates spatially-rich narrative into the design of a museum-based program for preschool-age audiences. Narrative elements from the storybook guided the educator’s facilitation of discursive practices which promoted children’s spatial sensemaking practices. Children used spatial sensemaking practices to co-construct evidence-based explanations about a spatial phenomenon.
