Abstract

There are many factors controlling high temperature thermal stability of jet fuels. Fuel composition is the most important one. The major purpose of the present work is to develop a fundamental understanding of the thermal reaction processes of n-butylbenzene and tert-butylbenzene by analyzing their gaseous and liquid products. The liquid products are divided into several groups which allow distinguishing between stable and unstable components according to their degradation behavior in terms of the change of product distribution with time, and this in turn helps to identify the socalled 'precursors' to solid products.
