Thin Film Electronics - Electronics Anywhere

Abstract

The potential application of low cost or large-area thin film electronics was discussed. Thin film electronics offers an alternative to conventional Ics for low-cost or large area applications as device materials can be deposited and processed at low temperature and low cost. Organic thin film transistors (OTFT) were fabricated using pentacene as the active layer material on polyethylene napthalate (PEN) substrates with performance similar to that obtained on silicon of glass substrate. Results show that the characteristic such as field-effect mobility, threshold voltage and on/off current ratio are similar to or better than those obtained for a-Si:H TFT and were sufficient for a range of low cost or large-scale electronics applications.
