Abstract
1. Thoracic trauma comprises a small percentage of trauma admissions in the pediatric population, however, when present, accounts for significant increase in morbidity and mortality. 2. It is essential to quickly diagnose thoracic injury in the pediatric trauma patient, as outcomes improve dramatically with expedient and accurate diagnosis. 3. A consistent, stepwise approach to the diagnosis of thoracic trauma can aid in achieving diagnosis while minimizing missed injury. 4. Thoracic trauma can be grouped into two main categories by mechanism, blunt vs penetrating injury.
