Abstract
In this paper, we mainly investigate how a selective-repeat automatic repeat request (SR-ARQ) scheme works when it is used with an adaptive modulation system (AMS). Simple analytical expressions for the throughput performance of the SR-ARQ/AMS are presented. We obtain the throughput performance of a SR-ARQ/AMS for various fading channels. We also consider channel estimation errors for the throughput analysis and compare the throughput performance with that when perfect channel estimation is assumed. Numerical results from the analysis show that the throughput performance of a SR-ARQ/AMS outperforms that of a conventional SR-ARQ when used with a fixed modulation system.
