Abstract

Incorporation of up to 60% PW-4b in the NTP (sodium titanium phosphate, NaTi//2P//3O//1//2) waste form is achieved by firing at 800-1050 degree C. This waste form consists of NTP as the major radiophase and monazite as the minor radiophase. The monazite content of the waste form increases with an increase in waste loading. At the highest waste loadings, CsZr//2(PO//4)//3, which is isostructural with NTP, forms from the Cs and Zr present in the PW-4b waste. Leach data have been obtained at 100 degree C in deionized water, and the leach behavior of the NTP waste form compares well with other good ceramic waste forms.
