Abstract

The Europa Orbiter will search for liquid oceans beneath the icy surface of Jupiter's moon. In order to achieve orbit, the hyperbolic excess speed at Europa is reduced via multiple gravity-assists from the Galilean satellites. The tour must also satisfy various mission requirements including low radiation close and acceptable time of flight. This paper presents solution approaches for designing Europa Orbiter tours and provides summaries of representative cases.
