title = "Towards Optimal Information Gain for Judicious Positioning of Sensors in Geophysical Tests",
abstract = "Full waveform inversion is growing in popularity as an alternate technique for geotechnical soil characterization. Intrinsic to such class of methodologies are geophysical tests that yield sensor measurements which are then used in the inversion process. Critical to the success of any such inversion processes is the information that is carried by the sensor measurements. Hence, efforts may be taken to place the sensors in a way that yields maximum information. This paper aims towards optimizing sensor locations in a geophysical experiment by probabilistically exploring the sensitivity of the quantities of interest in the geophysical experiment to the soil parameters and then constructing information maps based on it. Through elaborate illustrations and comparisons, this paper demonstrates that these maps may help in identifying regions of high information and thus may allow for judicious placements of sensors while conducting any geophysical experiments.",
