Abstract
Polymeric chiral sculptured thin films (STFs) can act as lasers in the so-called Bragg regime, if doped with appropriate dyes. We propose a piezoelectric control mechanism to tune such lasers. The negative piezoelectric effect in a piezoelectric layer deposited on a polymeric chiral STF laser will shift the Bragg regime but not significantly its bandwidth. The possibility of steerability, in addition to tunability, is also indicated by our theoretical results.
