Abstract
An X Window user interface for Dictra has been developed based upon the user interface developed for Thermo-Calc. With this user interface, many useful simulations can be made in a simple way without mastering the commands of Dictra. It should thus be possible for people who are not specialists in Dictra to use the program. With this interface, it is possible to simulate certain virtual heat treatments of an alloy. One example is soft annealing and subsequent austenitising of an Fe-C-Cr alloy. The dissolution of M23C6 carbide in an Fe-Cr-C alloy and the solidification of an 18-8 stainless steel can also be simulated and many other simulations can similarly be made. With a little further programming work, it will be possible to combine various single simulations to simulate a series of heat treatments, such as solidification followed by homogenisation and then isothermal transformation or continuous cooling, etc. Other future goals are to include diffusion in dispersed systems, i.e. carburisation, and cooperative growth, i.e. pearlite growth.
