Trends in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter examines trends that may shape the future of diversity in the United States. A trend refers to the general shape of unfolding events. While many organizational leaders often think of a trend as a future continuation of the past, that is growing less common. Trends in DE&I efforts will not rely solely on statistical descriptions of present events. Communication can build bridges, create common bonds, and lead to shared interests. Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to nonhuman entities, creations of technology, that can replicate human problem-solving and decision-making. The age of AI and androids is upon people. Self-driving vehicles will soon become commonplace. Robots are already vacuuming carpets, mopping floors, and mowing grass. Diversity fatigue is sometimes regarded as an issue primarily affecting white males. The boardroom remains a place often not regulated for diversity.
