Abstract

We describe here two types of liquid crystalline meta-materials that possess tunable or reconfigurable negative-zero-positive index materials: (1) core-shell nano-spheres randomly dispersed in aligned nematic liquid crystals: (2) planar nano-structured frequency selective surfaces [FSS] with aligned nematic liquid crystal. These meta-materials may find applications in the next generation reflective, transmissive, modulation and switching elements and devices in the visible - infrared - Terahertz and microwave regimes.
