Abstract
The authors present results from a study in windowing techniques for finite 2-D data regions with irregularly shaped support. A large number of experimental windows were studied in which a 2-D window was constructed by repetitively applying a 1-D Hamming window in different directions. Experiments were performed for squares, circles, diamonds, L's, cones, and annular sectors. The Resulting windows were evaluated in the spectral domain by mainlobe widths and peak sidelobe response along different frequency contours. The results of this study are a set of guidelines that suggest how to construct a good 2-D window by properly applying a good 1-D window in several directions.
