N2 - Ultrasonic guided wave inspection of adhesive lap joints is studied using a hybrid analytical method and a numerical method (Finite Element). The effect of adhesive quality on guided wave reflection at the region of transition from the skin to the lap joint is analyzed using both methods for isotropic and anisotropic adherends. It is shown that wave mechanics study provides a useful guideline for adhesive bond inspection in terms of wave mode and frequency selection, sensor design as well as feature extraction.
